Tam Kinnear-Swift

Scale Modeller, YouTuber, Live Streamer and Author.

Tam isn't REALLY an author. He's actually a scale modeller who happens to be a talented amateur writer. Okay, Okay... an amateur writer then... He's been making models now since about the age of 8, when his Aunt bought him a book called “Scale Modelers Handbook” by Chris Ellis, and it ignited a passion which has lasted a lifetime. This would go on to inspire him to write. He is passionate about Modelling, Sports, Photography, Film-making and Divorce. His writing is described as "Similar to what happens when you headbutt a keyboard, and add grammar and pictures." He is his own harshest critic, never actually listens to his own advice, and is also the owner of both a YouTube channel and high blood pressure... He suspects the two are related

COMING SOON -Airbrushing for Scale Modellers: A Complete Course from Beginner to Advanced

This book is a complete, structured course in airbrushing for scale modellers, guiding you step‑by‑step from fundamental principles through to advanced professional techniques.

Originally published as the "Airbrush" section of The Big Book of Scale Modelling, this expanded and revised edition builds on that original content to create a comprehensive learning resource. It begins with the absolute basics: how airbrushes work, the mechanics of the equipment, paint types, air pressure control, and correct setup and maintenance. From there it progresses systematically through core skills — including masking, colour mixing, and smooth blending — before moving into more advanced methods such as complex camouflage, weathering effects, fine detail work, and large‑area finishes.

Each stage combines clear theory, practical exercises, and hands‑on guidance designed to build your skill and confidence. You will learn not just how to apply paint, but why techniques work the way they do, and how to adapt them for different scales and subjects — from a 1:72 Spitfire to larger and more complex models.

Suitable for anyone new to the airbrush, as well as experienced modellers looking to refine their work, this book covers everything you need to know to master the craft: from first principles and routine practice, right through to the methods used to achieve the most realistic, professional‑quality results.
